Behind the switch
A symbol of moving forward
Drawing from previous digital marketing and web experiences, I knew there was an opportunity to be more transparent and collaborative with people. In 2013, my kitchen table became my office where I provided marketing and website projects for a few businesses – and I loved it.
I decided to name the company “97 Switch” while I was reading Walter Isaacson’s book Steve Jobs. In the year 1997, Steve Jobs came back to Apple as the interim CEO and provided the necessary ‘switch’ Apple needed to get back on track. In doing so, they created products that altered the course of the future.
Our company’s name and logo is all about staying focused on the future by helping businesses make necessary changes to keep them moving forward. We are continuously looking for ways to provide the ‘switch’ needed for the people and businesses we work with.
Our Chicago roots
Finding purpose through connection
Collaborating with people provides tremendous power while learning. For that reason, I made the decision to upgrade from the kitchen table and join our first coworking space in downtown Chicago called Grind. After meeting a wonderful network of people there, including many of our first partners, 97 Switch then moved to the first WeWork in Chicago as part of the inaugural group in 2015.
As a big and dynamic city with midwestern roots and hard-working values, Chicago was always the right fit for us to start. We relate to many of Chicago’s roots and values.
For example, in 1871 the Great Chicago Fire destroyed the city’s Central Business District. After the fire left most of the downtown in ruins, the city rebuilt and grew back stronger despite this tremendous setback. Over the years the city’s people have shown a spirit of tenacity, creativity, and hard work, always finding a way to keep moving forward despite trials and tribulations.
At 97 Switch, we continue to value persistence and innovation, taking inspiration from the city where we began.

Today, 97 Switch is an award-winning digital marketing agency with talented creatives, marketers, strategists, and developers. Throughout the years we have worked in many industries, including technology, hospitality, financial services, real estate, and more.
While Chicago is still a primary home, 97 Switch has evolved into a mostly remote working environment, which opened the door to work with the best people across the United States.
After 10 years of business, 97 Switch opened our 2nd location in Portland, Oregon! As a big city with a small town feel, Portland was the perfect fit for our next adventure. We love that the city values building real connections, just like us. We are excited to continue to work with more of the west coast’s community.
